A press conference with residents of Ben Titus Road (Still Creek Road) and vicinity, Rush Township, Schuylkill County, will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday, June 2, at the Quakake Volunteer Fire Co, Tamanend Road, Quakake.

Carbon County Groundwater Guardian President Frank Waksmunski will discuss the high rate of a rare bone cancer (1 in 200,000 incidence) on a 0.4-mile stretch of Ben Titus Road.

In addition, area residents’ health data of other cancers and illnesses will be presented.

The area in discussion is downgradient from the McAdoo Superfund Site, a co-gen plant and known illegal hazardous waste dumping into coal mines and shafts. With the help of Rep. David Argall, the Groundwater Guardians are asking Pennsylvania’s Department of Environmental Protection and Department of Health to perform an extensive investigation.
