Welcome back to the Watering Whole! The column has been less than regular for a while, as the Carbon County Groundwater Guardians rethink and restructure a way to help you understand and learn more about drinking water resources.
We’ve decided to take things in a slightly different direction. For the next few months, our column will focus on everything the homeowner needs to know about understanding, installing, maintaining and troubleshooting well and septic systems. After all, anyone with a well and septic is really running their own little water company. Shouldn’t they have the resources to do it right, and someone to help them solve problems?
Even if you’re on “city water”, we’re sure you’ll learn something here at the [ISBT]Whole[/ISBT]. Some of the topics we’ll focus on, like geology, plumbing systems and pollution, impact drinking water no matter what the source. Upcoming articles will be designed like chapters in a book, where future concepts will build on previous ones. The result will be a comprehensive, easy to read story, taking you from the aquifer to the tap, and helping you to make smart, informed decisions about “everything water”.
A good deal of this information is already out there waiting to be compiled into one convenient place, so our job of telling the story of everything water won’t be that hard. The real challenge is one you can accept. Make an effort to return to this column and check out every article, perhaps even clip and save them as they continue, and you’ll have gained a wealth of knowledge, not to mention a valuable reference on our most valuable natural resource.
So please, stay tuned to the Watering Whole.
Everything water is on its way.
