EPIDEMIOLOGY REPORTS:
TAMAQUA AREA CANCER INCIDENCE STUDY 1996-2002
By Pennsylvania Department of Health

In the Spring of 2004, Pennsylvania Department of Health was contacted by State Representative David Argall requesting assistance in determining the cancer risk for communities in the vicinity of the former U.S. Environmental Protection Agency McAdoo Associates Superfund site, bordering Carbon and Schuylkill Counties. Residents and local area physicians expressed concern that the incidence of cancer was elevated and that environmental contamination from industries and waste disposal sites in the area may be responsible for increasing numbers of cases. The report below describes the data collected by the Department.
