The Carbon County Groundwater Guardians are inviting members of the general public to a celebratory meeting on Monday, Oct. 7 at 6 p.m. at the Carbon County Environmental Education Center. Pizza and soft drinks will be provided for all who attend.

The public is invited to come learn more about the Guardian’s volunteer efforts to protect groundwater throughout the county, and join in celebrating the group’s achievements this past year.

In 2002, the Guardians received national recognition from the Nebraska-based Groundwater Foundation, which designated Carbon County as a “Groundwater Guardian Community.” The group also received the Governor’s Award for Watershed Stewardship earlier this year.

The Guardians are active in groundwater conservation throughout the area, sponsoring low cost well water testing for homeowners, working to educate local school children, and providing other groundwater related services.

Anyone wishing to attend the celebration should R.S.V.P. by calling the Environmental Center at (570) 645-8597. The Center is located along the Lentz Trail highway, at the west end of Mauch Chunk Lake Park, just outside Jim Thorpe. There is no cost to attend.
